The Responsibility of Delight

It’s not all serious. Finding the joy and delight are sometimes the most important searches. Of course, it isn’t wise to avoid or neglect what is heavy or hard. But it isn’t responsible to neglect that which brings you child-like wonder.

What a disservice it is to only see what needs to be fixed or healed and never spend time in play. The dark and the light are both important. The meaningful and the frivolous can both be healing.

The world can influence our value system and send our lives askew. It can trick us into believing the darkness is more real than the light. But you are allowed both. Feel through the dark corners of your heart — and then imagine the visions that glitter in your mind’s eye.

The tiny things that make you grin for no reason at all — a song you dance to alone in your kitchen, the smell of fresh bread, the first sip of coffee on a slow morning.

Learn to let yourself cry, fully and honestly — and then reconnect to what makes you belly laugh. Find how you want to be of service to this world, and also discover which luxuries and indulgences make you feel like you’ve found heaven here on earth.

Sometimes growth means descending the staircase of your inner world into the place you’re scared you’ll encounter monsters. Sometimes growth is being brave enough to let yourself enjoy the life around you. Sometimes it takes courage to let your guard down and feel happy and free.
To let it shimmer through you like sunlight dancing on water.

Sometimes the most important thing in the entire world is your own delight.

It’s not all serious. It never was.
